What is an ‘Intelligence Function’? What value can they add to decision making? How can they be configured and who needs to be involved? What lessons can be drawn from current practice?
In readiness for the introduction of the NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I) guidance for Integrated Care System (ICS) ‘Intelligence Functions’ and supporting toolkit, the Strategy Unit is hosting a series of free webinars addressing these questions.
There are four webinars:
- Learning from South West London Health and Care Partnership. Tuesday 3rd May, 11:00-12:00
- Learning from Kent and Medway ICS. Tuesday 3rd May, 14:00-15:00
- Learning from the Midlands Decision Support Network and Black Country and West Birmingham. Wednesday 4th May, 10:00-11:00
- Learning from the Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service, Friday 6th May, 14:00-15:00
More details, including how to register are below.
The aim of the webinars is to help analytical communities across the NHS and other stakeholders develop their Intelligence Functions. Case studies from the toolkit developed for NHSE/I by the Strategy Unit, with advisory input from Nuffield Trust, will be shared as part of the webinars.
Through these case studies, you will learn from systems and networks who have already made progress in enhancing their system-level intelligence. You will also be supported to understand the different approaches you can take and the support available to you in doing so.
The webinars will be practical, interactive sessions with those who have already made a start; talking about the opportunities and challenges of building cross-system intelligence. So, if you’re thinking of setting up, developing, leading or collaborating with an ICS intelligence function, don’t miss out on this invaluable opportunity.
If you have any queries regarding the webinars, please contact Karen Bradley or Romaana Kapadi
About this webinar: During the COVID-19 pandemic, South West London Health and Care Partnership developed a COVID Dashboard to support Population Health Management in the system. Exploiting the full potential of this dashboard has required developing the analytical capability of their staff and supporting data 'users' to make the most of the linked datasets it contains. This webinar will focus on how they have done this, providing vital 'real-world' experience of creating and using a Population Health Management platform.
Speakers: Jamie Jong (Deputy Director of Business Intelligence) and Jayne Thorpe (Deputy Director of Transformation)

About this webinar: Kent and Medway ICS are focused on creating a strong 'data culture' in the ICS. This webinar will focus on the role in this of the Kent Research Network for Education and Learning (KeRNEL) and how they have established a linked data set across health and social care, in support of their approach.

About this webinar: The Midlands Decision Support Network (MDSN) is a collaboration of all Midlands ICSs; cooperating over joint analytical projects; training and development to enhance analytical capability and networking analytical staff across the region. This webinar will discuss what this model looks like and benefits of doing analytical work 'once for all'. How members of the network have used this offer to work for their systems will be discussed through the example of the Black Country and West Birmingham ICS.
Speakers: Lucy Heath (Academy Director at Healthier Futures) and Simon Bourne (Programme Director for MDSN)

About this webinar: The Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service (LKIS) is a key part of regional intelligence support infrastructure; in particular around population health intelligence and surveillance support to ICSs. This webinar will focus on how LKIS can support systems to deliver cross-system intelligence functions through identifying and building analytical capability; networking analytical resources; and brokering access to national population health analytics tools and support offers, amongst other opportunities.
Speakers: Jake Abbas (Head of LKIS) and Gareth Wrench (Programme Consultant)
